Rockford Michigan Hot Dog Hall of Fame

Looking for cool and unusual and fun places to visit in Michigan? Why not visit the Hot Dog Hall of Fame in Rockford Michigan?

It is a few minutes north of Grand Rapids at a place called the Corner Bar. Although it looks like your average small town bar and restaurant, you will soon realize that it is full of history and hot dog legends.

Around the turn of the century, this small saloon became noted for its great hot dogs. People came from all over just to try them.

Then one night in 1967, several members of the Detroit Lions football team amazed their waitress by challenging each other to eat 12 hot dogs a piece! By the following year, then owner Donald Berg, turned this 12 hot dog challenge into the “Hot Dog Hall of Fame.” If you can meet the challenge, you get a brass nameplate on the wall.

Now more than five thousand nameplates have been added to the Hot Dog Hall of Fame.

In December 2005, the current amateur champion, Balinda Gould, ate 43 hot dogs to set the current record.

Can you beat that? Maybe not, but it sure is a cool place to visit.
