Mancelona Michigan Vacation

Planning a Mancelona Michigan vacation? Want some travel tips from someone who lives there?

We asked someone from Mancelona to tell us places to go and things to do in her hometown. Here are some travel tips that she gave us:

Vacation Tips from a Hometown Insider:

Visit Mancelona Submitted by "Kaylee’s mom"

My hometown is a little blip of a town in northern lower Michigan. It is located along US 131, about an hour south of Petoskey, and an hour north of Cadillac. For such a small town, it has a lot to offer its residents as well as visitors.

Those of us who live in here enjoy all the benefits of small-town life: everyone is your neighbor; nearly everyone is your friend. Crime is almost non-existent, and violent crime is unheard of.

We enjoy crystal clear air, some of the best drinking water in the world, many beautiful lakes, and some of the prettiest vistas around.

We have what we need to be self-contained: grocery stores, car dealers, restaurants, hardware stores, and entertainment opportunities.

But we’re also close (35-45 minutes) to larger cities for those times we need a real shopping spree. From Mancelona, you’re no more than an hour to Petoskey (north), Traverse City (south west), Cadillac (south) and Gaylord (east).

And within that 1-hour radius, a person could visit Lake Michigan, Torch Lake (voted one of the most beautiful lakes in the world), Elk Lake, Lake Charlevoix, and Otsego Lake, among dozens of others.

Mancelona Michigan offers many activities in each season. Winter lovers will enjoy cross-country or downhill skiing at Schuss Mt. or Shanty Creek, or snowmobiling along miles of groomed trails. Spring time is perfect for morel mushroom hunting and hiking on state land. (You can try, but its not likely that anyone here will give up their Morel-hunting secrets!) Summer weather is perfect for going to the beach, fishing, camping (try Fred's Campground or Whispering Pines), golf, biking, and nature walks, all available in or near Mancelona Michigan.

Autumn is probably Mancelona’s best time to shine. The fall colors are remarkable here, whether you enjoy them on a driving trip of the area, or closer up on a hiking expedition.

We have a number of great restaurants, too. One of the newest is Shirley's Cafe - if you stop in, tell them Kaylee's mom sent you!

If you’re looking for a perfect getaway, no matter what time of year, you owe it to yourself to visit my hometown and explore all there is to offer. You might just decide you don’t want to leave!
