Vacation Tips from the Locals:

Meijer Gardens

Visit Grand Rapids! Submitted by April

Hello, my name is April and my hometown is Grand Rapids, Michigan. Grand Rapids, Michigan is a great city to live in and to visit! It is the second largest city in Michigan and it's located in West Michigan, which is a beautiful area of the state.

It's a fun place to visit because it is a fast growing city that is cosmopolitan yet it somehow retains a bit of small town charm.

There are a lot of things to do in the downtown area, from the excellent art museum to the Meijer Butterfly Gardens, and the Gerald R. Ford center. Also, Grand Rapids is about an hours drive from Lake Michigan which boasts many beautiful beaches and is a great place to visit during the summer! S

Some unique and fun places to eat in Grand Rapids are San Chez, a Spanish themed tapas restaurant, the 1913 room, an elegant restaurant in the Amway Grand Hotel and Bistro Bella Vita, a Mediterranean restaurant.

I would say that people could visit the Grand Rapids area at any time of year, not just summers. Of course summers are fun, but there is plenty to do all year. Grand Rapids even has some good local sports teams, and great shopping!

Come to my hometown of Grand Rapids! Submitted by J.T.

Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park is here in my home town of Grand Rapids, MI. The Sculpture Park has some beautiful works of art along quiet walkways and waterways. There is also a children's garden and a variety of different events, exhibits and talent there in different seasons of the year.

We also have several great restaurants like Leo's Seafood for dinner and Arnie's Bakery for breakfast or dessert.

I would recommend staying at the SpringHill Suites on highway 131. They have nice rooms and aren't too expensive. There are a lot of parks along the Grand River and you can take a nice walk in the Heritage Hill Historic area.

But if you like the night scene, you should stay in the Amway Grand Plaza downtown. There are a lot of hip spots to check out.

So if you want a laid-back or family-friendly vacation or if you would like to dance the night away to some great music, then use my Grand Rapids vacation tips and come to my home town of Grand Rapids!
