Visitor Favorite Campgrounds in Michigan

We asked our visitors to share their favorite campgrounds in Michigan. From tent camping to luxury RV campgrounds, here are their top choices for Michigan camping:

Interlochen State Park, Interlochen, MI Sept 2006

Chosen by: April (Michigan, Unites States)

The campground is set in a beautiful town, near the Interlochen Arts Camp. The campground itself is by two lakes, Duck lake and Green lake. We stayed in the "rough" part of the campground without electricity or flush toilets. It was very beautiful and peaceful there. Green Lake was lovely as well and we enjoyed swimming in it.

The campground is quiet enough to make you feel "away from it all" while still being near enough to town to get food, supplies and see a show at the arts camp. We really enjoyed our stay there.

Visitor Favorite Campgrounds in Michigan Oak Grove

River Ridge Resort, Stanwood

This is our favorite campground because it is clean, has awesome sites and a wonderful pool. Safe to let the kids play and ride bikes. Get playground and stuff for kids to do.

Young State Park

Beautiful scenery. Great facilities. Right on Lake Charlevoix, clear, blue and warm waters. I have been there every year for the last 4 years and will go again when I desire not so rustic camping.

Bay Furnace National Forest Campground chosen by Sue Martens Negaunee, MI

It sits on the Lake Superior shoreline protected by Grand Island. I can watch the fish tugs go out in the morning and come back at night trailing seagulls. There are ooodles of things to see and do in the Munising area so this park is a good place to stay.

Whispering Waters Campground, Evansville, IN August 6-8, 2007

Chosen by: Bobbie (Michigan, Unites States)

The owners Roger and Uta Vilmont manage this campground with personal pride. This campground offers access to river tubing, canoeing or kayaking, clean sites, a small, heated and clean swimming pool, and a campstore with reasonably priced items.

There is a Walmart and KMart just nearby if the campstore doesn't have all you need. There are also quite a few small lakes in the surrounding area for day trips.

The place was also very clean and neat.

Ludington State Park Ludington, MI July 25 - July 31, 2007

Chosen by Sid (LA, USA)

Ludington State Park is on Lake Michigan and also has a beach on Hamlin Lake. There is a river that runs from Hamlin Lake to Lake Michigan that you can float down. If you like sand dunes there are many to climb and run down. You can also bike or walk from the camping area to Big Sable Light House. There is a large trail system that is fun to walk. Lots to do right in the State Park, but it is a short drive to the city of Ludington where there are many tourist attractions.

Holland State Park, Holland, MI June 2007

Chosen by: David (Grand Forks, ND)

Holland State Park's campground is centered in the waterfront sand dunes of Holland, MI. The state offers two spots for campers to stay, one on the beach, and another a short walking distance from the beach and local shops. There are many activities offered nearby, including Seadoo rentals, kayak rentals, and a General Store that offer's a great ice cream treat on those hot summer days.

Try to avoid visiting late May to early June, since many of the local high school graduates are using this site as their celebration grounds.

Outdoor Adventures Davison, MI June 2007

Chosen by: Michelle (Michigan, Unites States)

Camping in Michigan

The campground has a wide variety of rental cabins, trailers, and hundreds of camp sites. They have an indoor recreation center where you can swim, play pool, video games and an exercise room. During the summer months they have paddle boats and putt-putt golf. I like this campground because there is so much you can do there with your kids.

Young State Park

Chosen by: Nathan (Michigan, United States)

The layout is very nice. There are many trails for walking. The beach is right on the campground, and it's a very nice and clean beach as well. The camp sites are, for the most part, well shaded too. The bathrooms were always clean, and there are plenty of them.
